What is the Pamantasan Conference?
Pamantasan Conference is an annual assembly of students, faculty and professional staff in the UH system. The term, pamantasan is a Filipino word for university or college. Pamantasan conferences do not only refer to the venue and participants of the assembly, but more importantly the issues tackled in the conferences -- such as Filipino enrollment and completion In the University of Hawai'i, representation of Filipinos in the faculty and professional staff in the University, legislative agenda related to higher education, Filipino empowerment, celebration of Filipino culture and heritage, and other related issues. lt endeavors to promote higher education among students of Filipino ancestry and prepare them for professional and leadership roles.
UH West O'ahu is this year's host of the Pamantasan Conference. As the host, we extend participation of Filipino students from nearby Hawai'i DOE high schools to attend this year's conference. There is a high percentage of Filipino students from Leeward and 'Ewa Coast schools (Aiea, Pearl City, Waialua, Leilehua, Mililani, Waipahu, Campbell, Kapolei, Ndnikuli and Wai'anae). This conference experience seeks to promote college-going among high school students through meaningful connections with college students, faculty, professional staff and community leaders. ln addition, the conference strives to support current college students in navigating through college. The planning committee composed of current college students together with staff and faculty members from UH West O'ahu is developing a comprehensive conference experience for all to draw inspiration and make meaningful connections among all participants.
