UNITY THROUGH DIVERSITY
Philippines consist of 7,107 islands, nearly 200 dialects, and 7 major religious backgrounds. Many Filipinos differ in values and beliefs due to foreign influences, geographic location, religion and language/dialect. This creates a diverse society. As many Filipinos leave the country, the Filipino diaspora is increasingly growing widespread. Opportunities to provide a better life for themselves and their families is always at the forefront for immigration. Although Filipinos and Filipino Americans have different backgrounds, struggles and life experiences, two things remain the same, being Filipino and achieving a better life.
At this year's Pamantasan Conference, it is our hope that the theme of Unity through Diversity encourages you to recognize our rich cultural diversity as a source of strength and a call to unite. This strength unites all Filipinos throughout the UH System to take pride and ownership of our community through addressing our issues, overcoming our struggles, as well as celebrating our successes and accomplishments. It is our hope that you realize your commitment to achieving a better life, is not only for you, but for future generations.
